Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In Uttar Pradesh, a stringent measure has been introduced to curb traffic violations, sparking controversy and dissent among the public. According to the new rule, if a driver accumulates three consecutive traffic challans, their driving license will be canceled. Furthermore, those who persistently violate traffic rules, even after the license cancellation, will face the cancellation of their vehicle registration. The rule, aimed at promoting road safety, has generated a stir among the public.
The initiative comes as part of the directives from Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra, who emphasized the need for a Road Safety Fortnight from December 15 to 31 to prevent road accidents. During a video conferencing session with Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates, the Chief Secretary highlighted the significance of addressing issues such as overspeeding, wrong-side driving, mobile phone usage, and drunk driving, which contribute significantly to road accidents.
The authorities aim to create awareness and reduce accidents by implementing the new rule, ensuring strict action against repeat offenders. Additionally, inspections of critical care facilities in districts will be conducted to facilitate timely treatment for individuals affected by road accidents.
